Pentecost Was NOT the Birthday of the Church: "Why Jesus Said 'Wait'"
Pentecost came after John 20:21-23. WHAT I DIDN’T GET TO SAY ON SUNDAY Monday, December 05, 2011 “WHY JESUS SAID ‘WAIT’” Luke 24:49; John 20:21-22; Acts 1:8 The “normal” church should look like it did in the Book of Acts. Why else would the Holy Spirit give us this book? It actually begins with these words: “In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.” (Acts 1:1-3) Luke refers to a “first book” – meaning that Acts is a continuation of that book – namely, the Gospel of Luke. Acts is the continuation of what Jesus BEGAN to DO and TEACH. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you."
